Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati is one of Pune's most loved temples, and also one of its trickiest for drivers. It stands in Budhwar Peth, a tightly packed old-city neighbourhood of one-way lanes and constant foot traffic. The golden idol pulls in over a lakh of visitors a year, so the area around it is rarely quiet. Knowing where to leave the car before you arrive saves a frustrating loop through the market.

Below are the practical choices. The market lanes themselves are not meant for parking, so aim for a paid lot a few hundred metres out and walk in.
| Parking option | Approx. distance | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shivaji Road paid lots | 300–600 m | Pay-and-park | Closest practical option |
| MG Road / Camp side lots | 800 m–1 km | Paid lot | More space, slightly longer walk |
| Tilak Road / Laxmi Road edges | 600 m–1 km | Paid / limited | Combine with market shopping |
| Near local police chowki | ~100 m | Very limited | Often full, especially Wednesdays |
Availability shifts through the day. Old-city lots fill early on weekends and festival days.
2 The easiest way to reach
The temple address is Ganpati Bhavan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, Budhwar Peth, Pune 411002. From most parts of the city an auto rickshaw or cab will drop you close to Ganpati Chowk, from where it is a short walk. PMPML buses serve Budhwar Peth, and Pune Junction railway station is around 3 km away, with Swargate bus stand a similar distance.
| From | Approx. distance | Best mode |
|---|---|---|
| Pune Junction railway station | ~3 km | Auto / cab |
| Swargate bus stand | ~3 km | Auto / PMPML bus |
| Pune airport | ~11 km | Cab |
3 Timing your visit
For the calmest experience and the easiest parking, go early in the morning, around the 7 to 9 am window, or later in the evening. Midday and the 5 to 7 pm stretch are the most crowded on ordinary days. Wednesdays see larger numbers, and during Ganesh Chaturthi the whole of Budhwar Peth turns into a sea of devotees, so plan to arrive on foot or by public transport during the festival.
? Frequently asked questions
Is there parking right outside the temple? +
No. The temple is in a dense market area on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road in Budhwar Peth, and direct parking outside is minimal. You park in a nearby paid lot and walk the last stretch.
How far is the nearest paid parking? +
Most reliable paid parking is roughly 500 m to 1 km away, around Shivaji Road and the MG Road area, which is a short walk through the market lanes.
Which day is the busiest? +
Wednesdays draw extra crowds, and the temple is at its busiest during the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival in August or September, when driving in is best avoided.
What is the easiest way to reach without a car? +
An auto rickshaw or cab dropped near Ganpati Chowk, or a PMPML bus to Budhwar Peth, followed by a few minutes on foot. Pune Junction is about 3 km away.
